Compile & export
Compiling assembles the documents in your binder into a single finished manuscript and exports it to a standard format. Your individual scenes and chapters stay separate while you work; compile stitches them together on demand.
What compile does
Section titled “What compile does”- Gathers the documents you’ve marked to include.
- Applies your review choices — accept tracked changes, reject them, or keep them as tracked changes in the output.
- Cleans up styling — removes on-screen-only styling while keeping meaningful formatting like bold and italic.
- Assembles front matter, chapters (with headings, numbering, and scene separators), and back matter.
- Exports to your chosen format.
Formats
Section titled “Formats”- DOCX — Word document, optionally with tracked changes and comments preserved. Best for sending to editors and agents.
- PDF — a print-ready, page-formatted document.
- Markdown — plain, portable text.
Presets and overrides
Section titled “Presets and overrides”A compile preset captures all your settings — separator style, chapter numbering, fonts, margins, and front/back matter. Use a built-in preset or save your own.
Individual documents can override the preset: a custom title, skip numbering, skip the heading, a different separator, “compile as-is,” or “start a new part.”
For a step-by-step walkthrough, open the Compile dialog in the app and follow the panels left to right.
