MUSE is a writing app for novelists, screenwriters, and long-form writers.

We aim to reply within two business days. MUSE is currently in alpha, so please mention which version and which device you are using — it is usually the fastest route to an answer.

Before you write in

Something went wrong while writing. MUSE keeps snapshots and automatic backups of every project. Open the project and check Version History before doing anything else — the earlier text is very likely still there.

The app closed unexpectedly. MUSE saves a recovery draft every few seconds while a document has unsaved changes. When you reopen the project, it offers to restore it.

Where are my projects? On desktop, .muse files stay wherever you saved them. On iPhone and iPad, projects you created inside MUSE appear on the welcome screen; projects you opened from iCloud Drive or Dropbox stay where they are, and you reopen them from the same place.

I need to move a project to another device. A .muse project is a single file. Copy it like any other document — there is no export step and nothing is left behind.

Alpha testers, please note

MUSE is not finished software, and alpha builds do not guarantee that projects carry across updates.

Keep a copy of anything you care about before installing a new build. On desktop, copy the .muse file somewhere safe. On iPhone and iPad, use Share to save it outside the app — to Files, iCloud Drive, or your own backup. It takes seconds, and it is the difference between an inconvenience and a lost draft.

Reporting a problem

The more specific the report, the faster the fix. Useful details:

What you were doing when it happened
What you expected, and what happened instead
Whether it happens every time or only sometimes
Your device, operating system, and MUSE version

Screenshots and short screen recordings help enormously.
