The Scene Board

The Scene Board shows the documents in a folder as index cards — a calm, visual way to see the shape of your story, rearrange scenes, and spot gaps without scrolling through prose. It’s one of the editor’s views; switch to it from the view switcher with a manuscript folder selected.

Cards

Each card represents one document and shows its title, synopsis, and any label or status you’ve assigned. You can:

Rename a card’s title inline.
Edit the synopsis directly on the card — the same one-line summary that appears in the Inspector and Outliner.
Reorder cards by dragging; the order is your manuscript order.

Choose a card size (small, medium, or large) to trade detail for overview.

Corkboard and Canvas

The Scene Board has two ways to lay cards out:

A corkboard / list arrangement that follows your binder order — best for reading and reordering a chapter at a glance.
A free-form Canvas — a pannable, zoomable space where you can place cards anywhere, group them, and draw connections. The Canvas is the home for spatial planning and is covered on its own page.

Filtering and grouping

Open the View popover to narrow what the board shows. You can filter by:

Label and status
Compile inclusion (included / excluded)
Custom metadata values
Revision state (for example, items in the active pass, or with open comments)

Active filters are summarized on the View button, so you always know how much you’ve narrowed the board.

Signals

Turn on a signal to surface a quiet marker on cards that match a condition, without changing your layout:

Readiness — how finished a scene looks.
Recency — what you’ve touched lately.
Target gap — scenes short of a word-count target.

Signals are opt-in and stay out of the way until you ask for them.

Lenses

A lens overlays story information on top of your cards:

Characters — focus on point of view and who appears where.

Saved views

Once you’ve set up filters, a lens, card size, and grouping the way you like, save it as a view you can return to with one click — for example a “Drafting” view and a “Revision” view. Saved views are remembered per folder, and you can rename, duplicate, or delete them.

Creating and moving scenes

New Scene adds a document to the current folder.
Select one or more cards to reveal bulk actions, including Move to folder, so you can reorganize chapters without leaving the board.

Keyboard and accessibility

The Scene Board is fully keyboard-navigable: cards take focus, the selected card is announced to screen readers, and bulk actions, creation, renaming, and moves announce their results. You can reach the board through the region-focus cycle along with the binder and panels.
